Can someone please help me understand this blood pressure reading? ?

I was walking for around 20 minutes, just before I walked into the store to take my blood pressure. The reading was 130/57. I cannot find a single chart on the web that is able to correlate my systolic and diastolic blood pressures. What do you think, is this good?
I am also athletic.
I am 19 and I weigh 162 lbs. with 7% body fat. I jog 4 miles every day.

That is an excellent reading, although the Diastolic pressure is just a tad low, but walking around for twenty minutes and still get a reading like that is good. Blood pressures fluctuate throughout the day. Maybe next time it will be different. I personally don’t have much faith in the electronic kits, I prefer the reliable old mercury readings. And also for your information, if you have a large arm you should use a large cuff. If you use a small cuff on a large arm the reading will be high, and vice versa. You don’t state your age, but an old rule of thumb for blood pressure is 100 plus your age, over 60 to 80. Some people do carry low blood pressures, but to low is as dangerous as to high. Yours is great. Good luck to you sir.

Help! My blood pressure was 134/95 and the dentist sent me to the MD. How bad is this?

I am a white 26 year old woman who went to the hygenist yesterday and my blood pressure was 134/95. They remarked to me and left it alone. I think chalking it up to fear. The commented that that was high for me though. Today I went back for a filling and it was still high, they sent me over to the clinic where they said I have to come in everyday and monitor my BP on a chart. How serious is this? I'm worried because if something happens to me I don't know who will take car of my kids.

A diastolic reading ( the bottom # ) over 90 is considered Stage I hypertension. You are rather young for such but it does happen. Do you smoke? That raises BP. Do you drink a lot of caffeinated beverages? Not just coffee but soft drinks. That raises BP. Diet plays a minor role. If you eat foods that are high in sodium, you might cut back on them. My rule of thumb is, if the sodium content is higher than 35%, I put it back (referring to frozen entrees or canned veggies). The reasoning is I eat 3 meals/day so I don't need more than a third of my sodium from any 1 meal.
Untreated hypertension can lead to major health problems when you get older so it's best to catch it early. Buy yourself a blood pressure monitor at the drug store, I use a wrist monitor instead of upper arm. Take your pressure every day for 2 weeks at the same time of day. You're looking for a consistently high reading, as opposed to a 1 time reading that may have spiked due to other factors like doctor/dentist visits. That's called 'white coat syndrome' and it is known to raise blood pressure - which is why you want to take readings at home.
Good luck.

I am wondering if anyone can explain my blood pressure.

I’ve noticed a slight off and on pain in my chest, nothing extreme, and decided to check my blood pressure. My reading was 142/76 & my pulse was around 80. I’ve read some charts that say 142 is borderline, but 76 is normal. Is this anything to get worried about?
BTW I am 28/m if that is any help.

142/76 shows an elevation of the systolic blood pressure: it should be 120 not 142.

The chest pain needs to be checked. See a doctor. You’ll need at least a resting EKG and possibly a treadmill stress test for starters.

i have a brain tumor and heart problems a well a off the charts blood pressure. ed also what should i do.?

pain is really awful

Consult your physician with regards to what to do about your brain tumor. There are so many different kinds that I don't feel comfortable trying to answer.

For both your heart and your bloodpressure your going to want to do the following:

Lose weight.
Change your diet to eliminate salty and sugary foods.
Research medicines to lower blood pressure but be careful of the side effects.
Excercise.

Beyond that I don't know. You should have some powerful pain killers available to you by perscription. Meditation might also the something you'll want to look into for pain management. Also if your able to make the above lifestyle changes you should start to feel a little better.

Wishing you the best,

Armus

where can I buy charts to record blood pressure?

I am sure you can get them from any medical supply store, but also there is a software program on line that you can enter your blood pressure readings and it will chart it for you etc. (see blow link). Or you can just type them up with dates and times, etc.

Click below link for the software:

free blood pressure charts?

I am not sure why there should be a BP chart. Once you reach adulthood ' normal ' blood pressure is 120/80 irrespective of height, weight, age or gender.

Is there a chart comparing heart rates with blood pressure readings.? If so, where can I find one?

There are several of charts on the web that compare heart rates with blood pressure. You can go to the nearest health clinic and ask a physician or nurse where your heart rate should be according to your weight. but you can also go to google and type in "compare heart rates and blood pressure" and should be able to find your answer through several of websites
